"It was never my intention to have a Sanctuary for Wolves and Wolf-dogs. However, my experience is that there are
no accidents, and even coincidences may be best described as situations in which God chooses to remain anonymous."

Luke, the very handsome wolf was obtained by a young man who thought that it would be “cool” to have a wolf. Seemingly he did not have the large space needed for a wolf and Luke was passed on to another person. As his story goes, he was stolen, then escaped. Being the adventurer that he is, he wandered into a well fenced yard in 2007. Luke was then taken to an animal control agency. A volunteer at the agency realized that Luke was a wolf. Through the combined efforts of three good Samaritans, St. Francis Wolf Sanctuary was contacted. All of Luke’s two-legged friends rallied to ensure that a no-kill sign was secured to his quarantine area. They frequently visited him at the shelter to calm his nerves. Luke’s previous owner did make some efforts to reclaim him. However, since it is illegal to keep a wolf without the required license(s), St. Francis Wolf Sanctuary was able to win full and permanent custody of Luke.

Two years later, Luke is very happy with his new home and friends. Although Luke appears disinterested, he would make a great undercover agent. Even though he seems not to be paying attention; he is aware of everything going on around him. This is the case with all wolves. They make it their job to know every sound and movement around them in order to better protect their pack.

Once you get to know Luke, he seems to be quite the wolf flirt. Even though he is happy with enclosure partner, he will from time to time frolic over to the fence and show his fondness of the female in the next enclosure too, much to the disapproval of that male!
